The paintings in the tomb are partly surface decorations and partly figurative. The remaining frescoes are basically in two parts; the northern wall depicts the Fall of Adam and Eve, the prophet Daniel in the lions' den and the Tree of Life. On the axis of the eastern wall, below the ceiling, is the symbol of Christ, the so-called Christogram. In the niche below is a torso of a red-robed figure seated on a throne with a wheat eagle and a palm branch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1975, while repair work was being carried out on the waterfall, which had been flowing in steps, a building called the Old Christian Mausoleum was discovered<\/p>\n

This cemetery chapel is one of the larger buildings in Sopianae. It had two floors; the surface chapel was used as a memorial cell while the crypt was used for burial. The burial chamber originally consisted of a painted room with a large, beautifully carved sarcophagus on the south side.
