Gatherpilar concert - Sopianae edition

August 30--22:00 - 23:30

Gatherpilar
Launched in 2023, Gatherpilar is an ever-evolving series of musical collaborations where a commitment to jazz meets the momentum of tradition and contemporary music.
During the concert, the musicians will work with musical material that has a common basis in variability and the possibility of using a free musical language. It is this freedom that allows different traditions, genres and eras to come together, transcending familiar boundaries to create a new, living musical fabric. The musical world of the areas from Persia to the Balkans has always been at the crossroads of cultures: the Middle East, the heritage of the ancient and medieval empires and the rich traditions of the Byzantine Empire all continue to define this region. The traces of ancient Persian classical culture were present not only in the East, but also in the Byzantine Empire, the most powerful state of early Christianity, which enriched the sound of the region with its own sacred music.
This multi-layered cultural heritage makes for a particularly exciting parallel with the spirit of jazz. While in the Western world jazz is a genre that is mostly based on improvisation, freedom and pushing the boundaries of style, in Eastern classical music this principle has never disappeared, but has always remained an integral part of the tradition. This creates a natural link between the two worlds: the possibility of co-creation, of living, momentary inspiration and constant renewal.
In the concert all these influences are present at the same time. Eastern and Western instruments enter into dialogue with each other, and elements of Byzantine sacred singing sometimes appear alongside modern improvisation. The result is a unique musical experience where past and present, East and West, tradition and contemporary creation meet and merge.
What is Gatherpilar?
Not just a musician, but an inspiring creative environment where the individual is shaped and highlighted by the community. It gathers, it unites, it oils - and it creates. Project work is based on mutual inspiration, which determines the length and depth of collaborations.
